One of the unique characteristics of Trail Blazers summer camp is the ability for camper to unplug and learn to live in a rustic and natural setting.
Campers experience real life in the outdoors by living in teepees and canvas hogans in small 'family' groups of 8 to 10 of their peers. Gathering around the fire circle for nightly pow-wows where songs are sung and games are played. These rustic living conditions, creative and exciting individualized programming, and challenging trail expeditions called vagabonds are just part of the excitement and challenge that make up the Trail Blazers experience.
All Trail Blazers participate in a wide variety of outdoor adventure activities such as:
With new skills and experience, campers prepare for a final expedition on the Appalachian Trail or the Delaware River, called “Vagabond.” The Vagabond, often a highlight of a camper’s experience, is a 1-4 day trip by foot, bike, or canoe and a perfect chance for campers to use the wilderness, survival, and group skills they have developed as well as test the bonds they have formed with their group members. Through Vagabond, campers achieve a sense of pride and accomplishment and the feeling that they can do anything.
Campers age 12 and up can choose from various specialty programs such as our canoeing and biking intensives. Campers age 14 and up can choose to join one of the leadership programs- Our year round environmental leadership program Under One Sky or our Counselor in Training program.
As an ACA accredited camp, we insure that all staff are trained professionals in their area. We certify American Red Cross Life Guards and recruit staff from all over the country and the world with a passion and excitement for working with youth development in the outdoors. Each staff member undergoes an intensive interview and reference check. Before children arrive, staff complete a thorough training, covering all aspects of the Trail Blazers program, to prepare for the important job of looking after your child’s physical and emotional safety.
It is Trail Blazers’ mission to make camp accessible for everyone. We realize that families have different needs and abilities to pay and we want to make sure we are fair to all. Although it costs $1500 per child for two weeks of camp, we offer scholarships at four tuition levels, ranging from $500 to $1500. In addition there is ‘campership’ support available to further reduce cost for you and your family. A registration combo fee of $100 is required from everyone.
